HONDA XL350 GEARS
Introducing the 1970s Honda XL350 Gear Set - Developed and Produced by MotoGears
At MotoGears, in collaboration with Nick Pearson from Sydney, we have developed Honda XL350 gears for the 1974-1978 Honda XL350 transmission. This is a 4-gear set and they are designed to replace the well-known weak 3rd and 4th gears in the original transmission, making them essential for large-capacity, high-output XLs used in vintage motocross.
Through a thorough analysis of the original Honda gears, we have implemented several improvements. Our new gears feature a modern 4-dog/4-pocket design compared to the OEM’s 3-dog/6-pocket configuration. Additionally, we have reinforced the engagement dog and selector groove face with 2 mm of extra material, enhancing durability.
To further improve strength of our Honda XL350 gears, we use modern materials that offer approximately 30% greater core strength than what was available in the 1970s and 80s.
The gear set also includes custom shims and circlips, which are required for proper installation and will be supplied with the gears.
It is important to note that Honda changed the countershaft sliding 4th gear between the earlier side intake port models and the later center port models. Our MotoGears 4th gear requires the use of the later center port selector with wider fingers (K2 and beyond).
